Many people think that being a new artist in the industry is hard, but not for Cameron Jibril Thomas, also known as the infamous Wiz Khalifa. He was born September 8, 1987, in Month, North Dakota. His dad was in the military; therefore, he traveled to Germany and Japan before finally settling  in Pittsburgh, and attending Taylor Allderdice High School as a teen.

Cameron got his name “Wiz Khalifa” from two words: “wiz” came from “wisdom” and “khalifa” came from the Arabic word meaning “successor.” He gave himself this name at the age of fifteen. According to his Muslim grandfather, he is also known as “Young Wiz,” because he was celebrated for having a musical talent.

On March 29th, 2011, Wiz released his first album “Rolling Papers,” selling 197,000 copies in the first week, and ranking at number two on the Billboard 200 chart. Last year Wiz released his first hit single, “Black and Yellow,” named after the Pittsburgh Steelers’s colors, and it peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming a huge radio hit.

Wiz’s fan base club, “Taylor Gang,” came from his love of Chuck Taylors. The group originated from people always wearing Chuck Taylors; it’s more than just a group, it’s a lifestyle. Taylor Gang has a saying, and it’s “Taylor Gang or Die.” If you’re a fan of Wiz, then you’re a part of Taylor Gang.

Rumors have been circulating about Wiz and his new “boo,” Amber Rose. They have been seen together in California, on Twitter tweeting back and forth about missing each other, and on the Red Carpet at the VMAS, where they shared a kiss for the fans. Many people say that she downgraded by going from Kanye West to Wiz, but she says that she upgraded. Maybe a marriage looms in the future?

On November 9, 2010 while on tour, Wiz was arrested on drug charges. He had just finished performing at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC; after the show his bus got searched and he was taken into custody. Wiz was accused with felony of maintaining a dwelling/vehicle/storage of marijuana and a misdemeanor of drug paraphernalia. Around 8:30 the next morning, he posted a bail of $300,000 and was released.

Tyquon Davis, a CHS student, said, “I love Wiz, and his beats are dank.” Ty listens to Wiz  coming to school, and traveling other places. He sings along in is car when he turns on a song by the artist.

But many other people don’t like him due to the fact that he does drugs and talks about illegal substance abuse in his songs. His first album “Rolling Papers” is named because of his use of marijuana. Many adults say that he is a bad influence on teenagers.
